CBCI's Dialogue Commission To Hold Places of Worship Meet
(21 Aug.2006): -CBCI’s Commission for Inter-Religious Dialogue will be holding a ‘Places
of Worship Get- together’ at the Lotus Temple Auditorium in New Delhi, on 27 August.
The theme of the meeting is “Human Beings as the living dwelling places of the Divine’”
The aim of the get together is to promote better relations and mutual collaboration
among the diverse religious communities, especially with reference to the places of
worship, which are symbols of the religious identity of each community,” said Commission
executive secretary, Fr. MD Thomas. “The diverse religious communities in India can
no longer exist as islands. They cannot travel as parallel lines, either. They have
to interact with each other, establish friendly relations and collaborate with each
other for making a better society, as well as for strengthening the basic faith of
the humans,” said Fr .Thomas who is also a Hindi scholar. “This new effort is the
beginning of a new culture. It will chalk out a plan of action that includes forming
a friendly association among the chiefs of the places of worship, meeting periodically
in one of the places of worship of any community. They will celebrate festivals together,
reaching out beyond the boundaries of the places of worship,” Fr Thomas added. A member
of the Rajya Sabha , Mr Tarlochan Singh, who will be the Chief Guest at the meeting
of the programme will deliver the keynote address. The Chiefs of the diverse religious
communities in Delhi , will also address the audience.
