Pope Benedict XVI sends condolences to the victims of the Mumbai bomb blasts


(13 July 2006) : “Senseless acts against humanity”, is how Pope Benedict described Tuesday’s terrorist attacks in Mumbai, financial centre of India, in a telegram of condolences sent to India’s Civil and Church authorities. Signed by Cardinal Angelo Sodano, Secretary of State, the telegram read: "Deeply saddened by the news of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI assures all affected of his spiritual closeness in prayer. While deploring these senseless acts against humanity, the Holy Father commends the many deceased to the loving mercy of the Almighty. Upon their grieving families and the numerous injured he invokes the divine gifts of strength, consolation and comfort."
