the globe. The day serves to focus attention on those who have fled conflict or
persecution. At present, the global refugee population is decreasing - standing
at just over 9 million, the lowest in nearly a quarter of a century. Father Michael
Gallagher is regional advocacy officer for South Africa with the Jesuit Refugee Service. He
