CCI expresses “Grave concern over the difficulties experienced by the christian community
in Rajasthan.”
(April 25, 2006) In India’s southern State of Karnataka, the Executive Committee
of the Catholic Council of India CCI, which met April 24 in Bangalore at the National
Biblical, Catechetical and Liturgical Centre under the presidentship of Cardinal
Telosphore Toppo, expressed grave concern over the difficulties experienced by the
Christian Community in Rajasthan. CCI said the situation has so deteriorated due
to the anti-conversion Bill that the community is constrained to seek police protection
even for conducting the Sunday services. The Council called on the Rajasthan Government
to withdraw the anti-conversion legislation and regain the confidence of the minorities.
The Catholic Council of India (the Apex representative Body of the Catholic Church
in India) is a sign of unity and mission of the Catholic Church in India. Therefore,
the Executive Committee decided to do everything within its capacity to strengthen
the Catholic Council of India in order to serve the Nation more effectively. During
the meeting, Pallottine Father Varghese Pullan was elected Secretary and Dr. P.C.
Aniyankunju - the treasurer of the Catholic Council of India.
