(31 January 2006 - RV) The president of the Pontifical Council for promoting Christian
unity, Cardinal Walter Kasper, arrived in Georgia today after a four-day trip to neighbouring
Armenia. The Cardinal's visit is at the invitation of the country's small local catholic
community. He will meet his holiness Illia II, the Primate of the Georgian Orthodox
Church. He will also take part in an ecumenical prayer service hosted by the local
Armenian church. it is the first visit to Georgia by a head of the Council for Christian
Unity in 15 years. Last week, we spoke to Cardinal Kasper about the state of Catholic-Orthodox
relations.
