(13 December 2005 - RV) The truth of peace must shine even amid the tragedy of
war. This was the theme of Pope Benedict’s message for World Peace Day which was
issued on Tuesday. In the document, the Holy Father said that countries have a duty
to respect international humanitarian law and appealed for worldwide nuclear disarmament.
He also strongly condemned terrorism but said the world community should look deeper
into its political, social, cultural, religious and ideological motivations. We spoke
to Monsignor Frank Dewane of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace who
launched the document.
