(12 December 2005 - RV) Two men were found guilty yesterday of murdering Sr. Dorothy
Stang, who had spent her life in Brazil campaigning on behalf of poor farmers against
ranchers and big logging companies. The two men were sentenced to 17 years for shooting
the 73 year old nun six times on a muddy track in the rainforest. Prosecutors hope
that the convictions will open the way for three other men to be tried on charges
for paying for the murder. Sr. Jane Elizabeth Dwyer lived and worked with Sr. Dorothy.
She says these convictions are only the beginning in a long process to wipe out unfairness
in the judicial process.
