New Stamps of Pope Benedict XVI

(3 June 2005 - RV) The Vatican Post Office has issued the first series of stamps depicting Pope Benedict XVI.
The stamps – in a series of 3 – bear the latin inscriptions: ‘Habemus Papam’, meaning ‘we have a pope’, ‘Tu Es Petrus’ echoing Christ’s words to Saint Peter – ‘you are Peter’ and ‘Episcopus Romae’ underlining the fact that the Pope is first and foremost the Bishop of Rome.
