(3 June 2005 - RV) The Vatican Post Office has issued the first series of stamps depicting
Pope Benedict XVI. The stamps – in a series of 3 – bear the latin inscriptions:
‘Habemus Papam’, meaning ‘we have a pope’, ‘Tu Es Petrus’ echoing Christ’s words to
Saint Peter – ‘you are Peter’ and ‘Episcopus Romae’ underlining the fact that the
Pope is first and foremost the Bishop of Rome.
