Day for Europe

(09 May 05 -RV) On May 9, 1950, the first call for the creation of what is now the European Union was made. In the aftermath of the horrors of World War II, the construction of a peaceful coexistence amongst nations previously at war was an imperative. Monsignor Peter Fleetwood, the Deputy General Secretary of the European Council of Euopean Bishops' Conferences, tells us why "The Day for Europe" is important.
