The Pope will be buried in the crypt of St. Peter's Basilica
Pope John Paul II will be buried under the spot once occupied by the tomb of Pope
John XXIII, in the crypt below St. Peter's Basilica. The announcement was made
today by the director of the Holy See press office, Dr. Joachin Navarro-Valls. Pope
John XXIII died in 1963 and was originally buried in a tomb in the crypt. His remains
were moved into the Basilica itself when he was beatified in the year 2000.
